Statistics are great!

I have a confession to make: I love statistics! And I love data sets!
While others may enjoy to read a fashion magazine or a newspaper about soccer, I can spend hours reading and trying to understand statistics and data sets about demographics, environmental issues, education, national and local budgets,or similar interesting topics.

I like to understand the world and I like to be able to make fact-based decisions and I like to discuss about such topics. Without statisti…cs, without data sets, we cannot do any science and we cannot take qualified decisions. It’s a pity that so many people (too many people) do not like numbers, maths, and statistics.

Therefore, I am very sad to hear that Hans Rosling has passed away today. I don’t know anyone else in the online world who managed to present statistics in such an interesting and fun way.

Want to Empower Women Worldwide? Give Them Access to Contraceptives! Melinda Gates shares her thoughts why she advocates for over 225 million women around the globe who still lack access to modern contraceptives.

I totally agree with her! Every woman should have access to safe and secure contraceptives and education about family planning.
Unfortunately this is not everywhere the case. But many women in developing countries also want to have less children, they also want to de…cide when to have a child, and want to plan their life. Birth control needs to be put back on the agenda. It was a pity that poor countries did not get more help with this decades ago, I do remember that we even discussed this topic at school, back then we had „only“ 5 billion people on our planet (now we are already 7.5 billion).

By giving access to contraceptives to all who want to plan their children, we could avoid at least 80 to 100 million unwanted pregnancies per year.

For me, contraceptives made it possible to finish college and devote nearly a decade to a career in tech I loved before starting my family. For this teacher in …rural India, they’ll make it possible for her to return to work after her daughter starts school so that her family will have the second income it needs to break the cycle of poverty.

Every woman, no matter where she lives, deserves the same opportunity to decide for herself whether and when to get pregnant, so she can take charge of her life and follow her dreams.

Ladensterben in München

Ladensterben jetzt auch massiv in München
Was vorher schon in vielen kleinen Orten und auf dem Land sichtbar war, erreicht nun auch München und hier jetzt auch die bisher noch attraktiven Stadtteile. Das Jahr 2017 beginnt nicht gut.
Um die oft raffgierigen Gewerbeimmobilienbesitzer tut es mir nicht leid. Wer Mieter abzocken will und auch in C- und D-Lagen noch horrende Mieten und jährliche Mieterhöhungen haben will, hat den Leerstand und Nulleinnahmen verdient.
Traurig ist es für die Straßen und die Stadtviertel, die durch solchen Leerstand negativ verändert werden.
Wir brauchen Lösungen für neue Nutzungen!
